DURASUEDE® FLEXIBLE SUEDING WIRE

DuraSuede® flexible sueding wire, developed and patented by Redman Card Clothing Co., Inc. has proven to be an exciting and viable replacement for sandpaper on conventional sueding (emerizing) machines. DuraSuede® sueding wire is applied as normal sandpaper is and will duplicate sandpaper results as well as allow new surface finishing effects. The common problems and limitations associated with sandpaper are eliminated with the DuraSuede® wire.

DuraSuede® sueding wire is very similar to conventional raising wire, as it is a wire staple product set in a cotton and rubber base. Most noticeable differences include a higher points per square inch, a lower height and a lower pitch angle, and the lack of grinding. After manufacture, the wire is subjected to an after process procedure where each wire is treated with a special coating giving a rough durable surface. All work is done with the backside of the wire as opposed to using the leading point as seen with conventional napper wire. It is this surface that effectively works the fabric resulting in a soft "sueded" effect without the formation of pile thus eliminating the problem of pilling after washing. The key to the success is the combination of the rough surface combined with the flexibility of the wire allowing the fabric to be worked to the proper finish without the normal degradation of the inherent structure commonly found with sandpaper. The rpm’s of the working rolls on the sueding machine can be reduced and the fabric speed can be increased so that the effective contact time of the fabric with the working surface is kept to a minimum preserving the fabric strength yet producing the desired effect. Because of the power of the DuraSuede®, the sueding effect is more of a surface finish rather than a deep effect as created with sandpaper. Thus the DuraSuede® is able to create similar surface effects without cutting the fibers away as occurs with sandpaper. This is the key to preserving the fabric strength and structure.

DuraSuede® itself is also available in varying degrees of aggression allowing greater flexibility to suit specific fabrics. This is allowed by varying the size of the particle of the treatment on each wire. The size of the particle is directly related to the degree of the aggression. Combinations of the varying types are also possible and often recommended for desired finishes.
